We'd like to tell you a bit about ourselves
At Muir, we help people get a home that suits them. We're a housing association that works with people who, for whatever reason, need some support with their living arrangements. They might be elderly people who need help to maintain their independent lifestyles, or they might be young couples who want an affordable way of getting on the property ladder. We work with people from all areas of society.
Muir has homes in both rural and urban communities around the country, from North Yorkshire down to Berkshire. Our head office is in Chester and we have neighbourhood offices in Blackpool, Burnley, Helsby and Winsford in Cheshire, and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire.
We've been providing social housing for over 40 years now, so we're well established in the neighbourhoods where we're based. In our early days (back in the 1960s) we worked as a housing developer for local councils. In the mid-seventies, we started to manage properties as well – and this is what we focus on today.
Muir manages about 4,500 homes for people with general housing needs, and provides accommodation for about 300 people who require very specific support. These include young, single homeless people, women who have experienced domestic violence, people with physical disabilities, people with learning disabilities, and people recovering from mental illness.
We see people as our 'customers' and pride ourselves on delivering high standards of service that exceed people’s expectations. One way we do this is by involving our customers in planning our services. They take part in our committees and meetings and we regularly consult them about what's happening in their neighbourhoods.
